Donald Rymer Obituary

Donald Edward Rymer

January 11, 1942 - February 6, 2025

Donald E. Rymer, Sr. went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2025. He was born--a mountain man of Appalachia--on January 11, 1942 of parents Desma Kane and Fletcher Rymer in Greasy Creek, Tennessee.

He served 20 years in the US Navy, worked 20 years for Miller & Rhoades, and then worked 20 more years at the Department for the Blind and Visually Impaired. He was also a contractor in his spare time and built two log cabins and many other houses and additions. He was a licensed electrician and HVAC tech, a Boy Scout leader, a member of Grove Ave. Baptist Church, where he made coffee for his Sunday school class for over 25 years, and he loved hunting and fishing.

Preceding him in death was his son Donald Rymer, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Winnie Wilbourne Rymer; his son, Daymond E. Rymer, and stepson, Shawn Evans; grandsons Taylor Rymer, Alex Rymer, and Christopher Rymer; dear friend and helper Karen McPeters; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2025 at Bliley's Funeral Home, 8510 Staples Mill Road, Richmond VA, 23228, with a funeral service following at 12 p.m. A graveside service will take place 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, 3101 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA 23233. I felt like you were my Uncle Don because I knew you my whole life. I felt like you were not handed an easy fair life but you were a strong person that turned life into success. I´m sure you are with our father in heaven. I´m sorry I wasn´t in your life more. I know you were a proud man and didn´t like to ask for help but I sure wanted to help. Hug Donnie for me. I love you both. My prayers for Aunt Winnie, she´s had so much on her and has been such an angel through it all. Prayers for Daymond and Shawn, and all the grandchildren, & great grandchildren. Godspeed!
