Donald Waybright Obituary

WAYBRIGHT Donald Keith Waybright "D.K.", 66 of Richmond, died November 25, 2006. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Keith Waybright II "Deke"; his parents, Kenneth Otto Waybright and Permelia Abernathy Waybright Davision; nephew, Michael C. Natter. He is survived by his fiancee, Virginia Whitt Barnes; his children, Jonathan W. B. Waybright, Tyler D. Waybright and his wife, Ellen, Katherine R. Waybright, Patrick K. Waybright, Grace C. Barnes, and Claire W. Barnes; his sister, Sharon L. Hamilton; his nephews, John Struder and his wife, Karen, and Steve Struder and his wife, Susan; niece, Kristina L. Harris; his grandchildren, Lisa J. Waybright, Dustin K. Waybright, Olivia M. Waybright, and Jacob C. Waybright; great-grandson, Mikah L. Beale. D.K.'s father died when he was very young. Undoubtedly his father's untimely death instilled in him a longing for family and a strong desire to be a father. As with all things that he did, he took fatherhood to great extremes. His children were the center of his life. Many people saw him as their surrogate father and even more counted him as a mentor. Many benefited from his advice, generosity and unyielding good will. All were welcome in his home. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. A service to honor his life will be celebrated at Grace Covenant Church located at 1627 Monument Ave., Wednesday, 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. A reception will be held at Willow Oaks Country Club from 1:30 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the July 7 and 8 regatta in Deltaville, Va. sponsored by www.leukemia-lymphoma.org.

Dk was a great man, his kindness and thoughtfulness has been far reaching. Though the last time I saw him was around my brothers death that little act was everything. I would like to do the same for Katy and Patrick. I've known them for as long as I can remember and though years divide old friendships stand. To the "dirty kid" and may this help the family in some way.

Although I only met Donald K. Waybright at his son Deke's funeral, I will miss him. Deke and I were very good friends for much too short of a time. And, from what I knew of Deke, and how he spoke of his father, Donald seemed to be just the kind of man that the world needs to keep forever.

The only people in the Waybright family I know are Patrick and Claire. Even though I don't know all of you, I am very sorry. I am in Claire's gym class and am very sorry for your loss.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. DK was a very generous man that knew no strangers (especially a red-head:) I think because I have red hair I was met with the opportunity for much advice when I walked into his office. There is one story he told me that I have never forgotten for over 13 years, and I am not sure I ever will. I know he is a spirit that is filled with a love of people, especially children. Warm hugs. (an extra for John John)

I worked for DK in 1974 and he was always so kind to me. We only had one car and I was pregnant so he took me to my doctor appointments.
Just how many bosses would do that?
He had such a sense of humor and even though I have not seen him for over 30 years I remember him as a good man. Blessings on his family.
Sincerely,
Judy Lee

I am so very sorry to hear of your family's loss of D.K. I was the secretary in the same building @ 1100 W. Franklin St the Family Counseling Center before it was torned down. He used to come & talk quite often and I always enjoyed his friendly personality. He always talked about his children and I never knew he had so many. He was truly blessed as a father.
