Doneila Campbell Obituary

CAMPBELL, Ms. Doneila Elizabeth, "Dee," "ReRun," passed away on May 21, 2022. A resident of Richmond for many years, she was a daughter, sister, aunt, second mother, friend, Godmother, nanny, teacher, coach, mentor and child of God. She never met a stranger. She was beloved by many. There was no one like her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Wade Campbell; and brothers, Harold Lee Jr. and Charles Edward Campbell. She leaves behind her father, Deacon Harold L. Campbell Sr. of Martinsville; her sister, Sylvonya "Vonnie" Wade-Giles; and numerous other family members.

Doneila was a devout Christian who attended Faith Landmark Church in Richmond for many years. Doneila's faith in God's promise was at the cornerstone of how she lived her life. One of her many gifts was her ability to see and nurture the good in people. She loved deeply and unconditionally. She forgave easily. She found her true calling in working with young children and brought out the best in each one of them. She was a toddler whisperer. Those who were raised with the bounty of Doneila's love and wisdom will always consider her family.

Dee worked for many years for Henrico County, helping run many of the Recreational Sports Leagues. She made countless friends through the basketball, flag football and softball leagues. Sports were always a huge part of her life. She could speak knowledgeably about any professional sports team and its players. Her love of basketball and football dates to her childhood. Her favorite players and teams were Michael Jordan and the Tarheels, Russell Wilson and the Seahawks (now Broncos) and the Collegiate Cougars.

A celebration of Dee's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 10 a.m. at Reveille Methodist Church, at 4200 Cary Street, in Richmond. If attending, kindly bring a note for her family that reflects the impact that she had in your life.

There will be a livestreaming of the service at reveilleumc.org.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory can be made to Collegiate School for the Doneila Campbell Scholarship Fund or Reveille Weekday School for the D. Campbell "Sugah" Fund.

I never got to meet her but my grandson 4 year old Townes absolutely loved that woman. Every day he got in the car after preschool and told me something about her. Every night when he said his prayers he added her like family saying God bless Miss D. He said constantly I love Miss D. She was such a blessing in his life and therefore mine.

My 3 year old grandson spoke endlessly and lovingly about Miss D. When I picked him up from preschool he always talked about Miss D. When he said his prayers at night he said His bless Mama, Dada Papa, Lala, Grams, Uncle Dube and Miss D. I love them. I am devastated that I didn't get to meet her. I was looking forward to it and the end of school program. I feel so fortunate and blessed she was a part of his young life.
