Earl Elder Obituary

Earl Tucker Elder, 80, treasured husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and dear friend, of Dinwiddie County, died Friday, October 1, 2004. He was the son of the late William Percy and Mary Chambers Elder. He served as Sergeant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in World War II, and he retired from Durham Life Insurance Company in 1986. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Chambers Elder, Corrine Elder Nichols, Dale Elder Westmoreland, Paige Elder, Phoebe (Faye) Elder Goodwyn, and William Percy Elder Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Virginia Merle Loftis Elder; daughter, Theresa Elder, both of DeWitt; his son, Earl Tucker Elder Jr. of DeBary, Fla.; sister, Laura Jean Elder of Richmond; two granddaughters, Chase Jacoby Elder of New York, N.Y., and Laura Loftan Sullivan of DeWitt. Funeral services to celebrate his reunion with his heavenly Father will be conducted 7 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2004, at the church where he worshipped faithfully, Rocky Run United Methodist Church, DeWitt, Va. Evening services will be officiated by the Rev. Robert Hoskins. Graveside services, officiated by the Rev. Kitan Petreski, will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2004 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Richmond, Va. Family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
