John "Jack" Jacob Liesfeld, III

May 14, 1946 - March 26, 2026

Jack was born and raised in, then, rural Short Pump, Va. Engrained early on with a strong work ethic, he helped on the family farm during his childhood years at St. Bridget School and Douglas Freeman High School. Jack was also a proud veteran, serving in the US Army in 1966 and 1967. As Secretary/Treasurer of the Liesfeld Lumber Company, Jack spent many years working under his father and growing this successful business. Upon the closing of the Lumber Company, Jack was fortunate to enjoy an early retirement and focus on farming at his own beloved Bare Castle Farm. He mastered raising sheep, cattle, and most recently, quality hay for "Horse People."

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John J. Liesfeld, Jr. and Ima Mills Liesfeld. He is survived by his partner, Eric Dirks; sister, Teresa Liesfeld Switzer; brother, Thomas J. Liesfeld; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jack was forever curious and thirsted for knowledge of History and other cultures. He was a world traveler, avid golfer, pianist, and the rescuer of many kinds of animals.

Jack was kind, very generous in spirit, and always quick to help out others in need. His sense of humor was contagious.

The family would like to thank his recent caregivers and also Rigo Santos and family for their devotion to the care of Bare Castle Farm.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at Bliley's Funeral Home - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd - Henrico VA, 23228. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Road - Glen Allen, VA 23060, on Wednesday, April 1st at 10:30 a.m., with interment to take place at Greenwood Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Goochland Animal Shelter or Danny and Ron's Rescue.
