Edward Bonham "Ed" Evans

EVANS, Edward "Ed" Bonham, 84, passed away January 5, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, David T. Evans Sr.; and mother, Helene Bonham. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Coretta Baldwin Evans; two daughters, Catherine B. Evans and Rebecca E. Chadwick of Mechanicsville; two grandchildren, Olivia S. Chadwick and Arthur E. Chadwick; two sisters, Laura Andrews (Jimmy), Jane O'Donohue; three brothers, David T. Evans Jr., John R. Evans Sr. (Eleanor), Thomas C. Evans Sr. (Brenda); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of friends. Ed was a kind and gentle soul and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle who loved his family and was a loyal friend to many. He enjoyed the great outdoors, golfing, trains and riding his tractor and was a lover of all animals. In his younger years, Ed also served as a volunteer firefighter. After serving in the United States Air Force, where he was introduced to main frame computer operations, a career in computer programming was launched, working as a data processing manager, systems analyst, computer language instructor and programmer. He began his career at the Virginia Department of Highways and went on to work for Humble Oil & Refining Company, A. H. Robins Company, Richmond Memorial Hospital (now Memorial Regional Medical Center), Media General, Inc. and retired after a long career with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. The family would like to express its deepest gratitude and appreciation to his devoted caregiver, Jodi Grout, Bon Secours Hospice, for their support and for the many kind expressions of sympathy and prayers received from family and friends. Due to the current health restrictions, a private family funeral will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, led by Chaplain Jeffrey Walton.
