Elizabeth Halsey Obituary
HALSEY, Elizabeth Lindsay Graham, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on December 8, 2021 at the age of 90. Lindsay showed kindness, gentleness and grace to all who knew her. Her compassion was evident in her outward desire to give to her loved ones. Her family knew her as a nurturing soul and a dreamer, lover of fairies and romance. Her grandchildren can attest that Nana had a sweet disposition and a silly sense of humor, telling goofy stories about her past. She always kept everyone laughing. She had a beautiful spirit whose mission in life was to teach her children and grandchildren compassion, open-mindedness and how to appreciate the best aspects of life. Lindsay was a graduate of St. Catherine's School, where she played All-City Field Hockey and attended Erskine College. She was a member of St. Stephen's Church and a member of the Junior League of Richmond. She also enjoyed her time on the board of the Richmond Ballet. Her personality was reflected in her columns that she wrote for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. She loved to read, especially the classics. As a child, she attended Camp Merrie-Woode, which had a special place in her heart. She could often be found singing camp songs like "Shiny Miny Diny" to her grandchildren. Lindsay was born on March 16, 1931. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Andrew Stephens Graham; her mother, Nancy Gordon Graham; her sister, Nancy Graham Hitch; and her son, Brenton Shaw Halsey Jr. She is survived by her devoted and loyal husband, Brenton Shaw Halsey. They have a remarkably long love story of 67 years. They shared a deep loyalty and unconditional love for their family. Lindsay brought a gentleness and silliness to their relationship, which complimented Brent's stoic and thoughtful disposition. She was the light and Brent was the rock. Lindsay is also survived by her children, Liza Halsey Perrin (Johnny), Kate Halsey Edris (Phil), Melanie Halsey Crittenden (Guy); and her daughter-in-law, Corell Luckhardt Halsey Moore (Thurston); her 16 grandchildren, Rawleigh Taylor (Polly Marshall), Halsey Perrin Ash (Griffin), Caroline and Catty Perrin, Sam Corey (Erin Brush), Kane Corey (fiancee, Taylor Claiborne), Mason Corey (Katherine Saffelle), Katie Corey Funk (Will), Lindsay Crittenden Leonard (Charlie), Alexis and Mellie Crittenden, Ali Halsey Breeden (Wood), Brent Halsey (Ian Li), Philip Halsey (Alee Johnson), Christian Halsey and Thurston Moore, all who would like to emulate the life she led. Nana also had 10 great-grandchildren, Bruce, Bitsy, Mason, Halsey, James, George, Lewis, Charlie, Emma Kate and Kai. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Mary, Nancy and Nancy, Joanne, Gordon, Vashti and her beloved Rosebud, all who provided friendship, comfort and loving care for her. Following a private family burial, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 15 at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. The family will receive guests at the Commonwealth Club immediately following the memorial service. St. Stephen's Church kindly requests that you wear a mask for the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Camp Merrie-Woode Foundation and Caritas.
