Elizabeth Pratt Obituary

PRATT, Elizabeth "Betty" Walker, passed away on April 11, 2023 with her sons at her side. She was born on January 23, 1926, in Washington, D.C., to the late Elizabeth W. and Horace L. Walker. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henry Pratt; and daughter, Elizabeth "Lisa" Clay Pratt.

She is survived by her sons, David Walker Pratt (Fiona) of Birmingham, Ala., Robert Henry Pratt Jr. (Jane) of Richmond, Va., Henry Randolph Pratt (Irina) of Vail, Colo,; her grandchildren, Robert "Beau" Howard Pratt (Amanda), Elizabeth "Liz" Pratt Stephens (Rob), Carolyn Walker Pratt, Alexander Walker Pratt (Greer), Elizabeth Pratt Pittman (Patrick), Elizabeth Nels Pratt-Thompson, Katherine Walker Pratt-Thompson, Henry Clay Pratt, Elizabeth Walker Pratt and Anna Nicole Pratt; her great-grandchildren, Robert Harris Pratt, John Howard Pratt, Vivian Wilton Stephens and Elizabeth Lee Stephens.

Betty attended National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. and St. Catherine's School in Richmond, Va., Class of 1943. She was a graduate of Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass. She was active in leadership and volunteer roles with Richmond Child Care, the Princeton Triangle Show, the Board of St. Catherine's School, the Virginia Opera, and was a council member and docent at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Betty was a partner in Pratt-Holt, an art agency that featured the work of painter, Nancy Witt. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Junior League of Richmond, The Woman's Club and the Country Club of Virginia.

An avid, seasoned and stylish traveler, Betty thoroughly enjoyed traversing the world with her husband, family and friends, along with spending time in Boca Grande, Fla. and at the family farm in Northumberland County, Va. Betty was a strong woman of strong convictions. She was also an accomplished and formidable force on the tennis court and at the bridge table, dominating both.

The family would like to extend gratitude to her house helpers and caregivers, especially Peiling, with whom she shared a 35-year friendship, Nada, and more recently, Beverly, Comfort Keepers and also dear friend and neighbor, Michael.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 8 at Hollywood Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Commonwealth Club.

When I visited my parents (Bob and Lucy Stockdell) in Richmond, I got to see Betty. who lived across the street. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and I will miss her.
