Elizabeth Popovich "Betty" Ridgeway

1940 - 2020

RIDGEWAY, Elizabeth "Betty" Popovich, 80, of North Chesterfield, Va., passed away peacefully on December 31, 2020. She was born on May 25, 1940, in Gary, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Burnette Ridgeway; grandsons, Justin and Christian Ridgeway Green; parents, John and Anna Toth Popovich Sr.; and brother, John "Yanko" Popovich Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Melody Ridgeway of Manassas, Va.; grandson, Cullen Ridgeway Green of Manassas, Va.; sister, Patricia Popovich Duda of Whittier, Calif.; and brother, Lawrence Popovich of Worthington, Ky. She is also survived by her husband's beloved children, E. Scott Ridgeway of Greensboro, N.C. and Robin Ridgeway York of Kernersville, N.C.; granddaughters, Valen Foster and Haven York of Kernersville, N.C.; a great-grandson, Douglas Dwayne Foster II of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey McManaway of Kernersville, N.C.; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Jean Ridgeway of Richmond, Va. She loved, and was loved, by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends. She was a warm and loving woman who spent her life caring for and supporting family and friends. Her memory will be cherished and never forgotten. She worked for Watkins Elementary for 37 years. She enjoyed gardening, bluebirds, organizing the Watkins retiree group, Gary High School reunions and her book chat club. A funeral ceremony will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd. The service will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/497427493/a7c1ccdc18. Interment to follow in Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richmond Audubon Society. The family would also like to thank many friends for their love and support during this sad time. Everyone has been a blessing to our family.
