Frank Atchley Obituary

Frank Mason Atchley, 92, of Beaverdam, Va., died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Des Moines , Iowa, son of Dr. & Mrs. B.D. Atchley of Ames, Iowa. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Hyatt and Helen Atchley. His sister, Alice Starin, lives in Lenoir, N.C. He graduated from Iowa State in 1933. He received a Masters Degree from the University of Illinois in 1936. He was an Associate Professor in Agricultural Economics at Michigan State University in 1939, then served in the U.S. Army during World War II, returning to MSU after the war. From 1953 to 1968 he was Agricultural Consultant for Grocery Manufacturers of America in New York City. He was Executive Director of Virginia Lumber Manufacturer's Association until his retirement in 1975. He farmed and raised Angus Cattle in Beaverdam in his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie (Stubbs) Atchley; a daughter, Dianne (Wilcox) Finnegan; grandchildren, Scott, Brian, Eric Densley, Laurie Nicholson of Richmond and Michael Densley of Arlington; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica, Sebastian, Ian, Mason, Claudia, Ethan, Emma and Grant. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held 9 a.m. April 29th at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Western Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad.
