Fred Pennington Obituary

Fred L. Pennington Sr., 72, of Chesterfield, Va., a native of Smith County, Va., passed away Monday, May 15, 2006 at his residence. He was the son of the late Frank and Lula Mae Davidson Pennington. Mr. Pennington attended Gill Grove Baptist Church in Chesterfield. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and retired from Bell Atlantic (now trading as Verizon), working as an engineer. Mr. Pennington is survived by his wife, Shirley Pennington; three sons, Michael Hopper of Colonial Heights, Fred Pennington Jr. of Chesterfield, Barry Pennington of Matoaca; and a daughter, Teresa Tyler of Chester; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a half brother, Jesse Pennington of Richmond. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Gill Grove Baptist Church, 10726 River Rd., with Pastor John Brothers officiating. Interment will take place on Friday at 2 p.m at Highland Memory Gardens-Sunrise Burial Park, 5555 Lee Hwy., Dublin, Va. 24084. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gill Grove Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226.

Uncle Fred is in Heaven with his siblings : Edna,Frank Jr,Floyd & Jesse. I miss them all and feel grateful to have known them. Fred was always Smiling when I saw him. He was a Christian light. God bless his Children & Grandchildren & Great Children with Faith & Joy. May this Christmas be a time of family to love each other and rejoice in the reason for the season Jesus Christ. Fred is deceased but never forgotten.
