Freeman Epes Obituary
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward Clack and Alice Hutcherson Epes of Richmond. Even though most of his adult life was spent in the medical community of Sarasota, Florida, he never forgot his esteemed Virginia heritage. Born September 23, 1928, Freeman spent his young years in Blackstone, Va. Educated at Hampden-Sydney College and VCU School of Medicine(MCV), he carried his early experiences in his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Sammis Epes; brother, Dr. Peter Harris Epes (Melissa); sisters, Jacqueline Segar Lauck (Charles); Alice Chloe Elmore (Thornton); sons, Freeman Epes Jones (Ann Beverly) and Campbell Harris Epes. He was predeceased by son, Travis Freeman Epes; and daughter, Robin Epes Jones Eddy.
We will miss his wild sailboat rides, perfect CC Manhattans, which he gladly shared, hilarious stories about old and new friends, wonderful smile, reminiscing about early childhood memories and his deep love and dedication to his medicine, patients, family and friends and the difference he made in our lives.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2023 at a graveside ceremony, Blackstone, Va., with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Freeman with a contribution Hospice, Senior Friendship Center, 1888 Brother Geenen Way, Sarasota, Fla. 34236, Schwartz Tavern Foundation P.O. Box 65, Blackstone, Va. 23824, or a charity of your choice.

Best job of my life was working for Dr. Epes back in the day when Siesta Key was still a local little beach town paradise. He was a wonderful doctor and a fabulous person. With the passing of Drs. Epes and Hoertz, Sarasota has truly list its best. Never again will we see such dedicated and caring
medical men as these.

I believe Dr.Epes was my father´s cousin. My dad, S.N. Hutcherson, had many good stories about spending some time in Blackstone with his cousins.
My deepest condolences to you for the loss of your loved one. (Sadly, my father also passed on 11/10/22.)
