Gene Pullen Obituary

PULLEN, Mr. Gene Franklin, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, Friday, May 6, 2022.

Gene was a Korean War Veteran; he was a Weather and Communications Specialist and a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He retired as a General District Manager from A&P Supermarkets after 48 years. Gene was a man of God and a life-long member of Wellspring United Methodist Church. He loved birds and gardening; he had a green thumb. He was an avid fisherman, albeit not a very good one. He was a diehard fan of the Washington Football team and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Gene would always have a good joke ready for you with a half smirk - half smile. He was a well-respected employer — known to have both high standards and character. He had a heart of gold and was a true family man who loved his family immensely – and whose family also loved him immensely.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lawson and Virgie Mary Pullen; as well as his six siblings, Agnes Chadwell, Charles Lawson Pullen Jr. Robert Pullen, Helen Lineweaver, Gid Pullen and William Pullen.

Gene is survived by his wife and life partner of 70 years, Nancy Kerns Pullen; his three sons, Dr. Jeffrey K. Pullen (Gale), James M. Pullen (Sharon), John N. Pullen (Paulette); his seven grandchildren, Jennifer Pullen Wilson (Jeff), J. Thomas Pullen (Aline), Melinda Gale Kennedy (Patrick), Phillip Kerns Pullen, Rebecca Pullen Christie (Travis), K. Claire Pullen, Madeline Jane Pullen; and his five great-grandchildren, Mason Webb Wilson, Logan Gene Pullen, Jack Patrick Kennedy, Abigale Kathleen Kennedy and James Thomas Kennedy.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Wellspring United Methodist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Williamsburg Hospice House.

Interment will he held in the Panorama Memorial Gardens in Front Royal, Virginia at a later date.

Mrs. Pullen, Jeff, James, and John...my heartfelt sympathies for the loss of you dad. He was such a kind-hearted person. I have many fond memories of sitting on the brick wall in front of your house by Wickre as a kid with you all. Your dad was always so friendly and kind. I also recall his days at the A&P, especially when I would sneak across from Matthew Whaley to get the, what was then new, liter size soft drinks! There would be your dad walking the floor. He always said hello. Prayers especially to you Mrs. Pullen.
