Geneva Winston Obituary

Geneva Scott Winston, formerly of 1911 Jay Street, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Medical College of Virginia Hospital after a long illness. Geneva was born August 7, 1932 in Richmond, Va. to the late Maude and Charles Scott. The eighth of 11 children, Geneva attended the Richmond Public School system. She worked at Richmond Eye and Ear Hospital for a number of years until her retirement. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. When health permitted, Geneva enjoyed attending church where she served as a Deaconess, D.T. Fraizier and Ladies Auxiliary Usher. Geneva was the matriarch of her family and leaves them with many wonderful memories. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Deacon David L. Winston Sr.; four sons, Raymond Scott, Deacon David L. Winston Jr. (Patricia), Dennis L. and Donald L. Winston; one daughter, Janie Winston Smith; two brothers, John L. and E. Gonzelo Scott; three sisters-in-law, Antoinette Edwards, Emma Lucille Winston and Addie Branch; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, partners of her sons include, Celestine Edmonds and Veronica Randolph; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, among them devoted Pamela Wade, Rose Reid and Roslyn Trent. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Thursday, September 23, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 812 N. 25th Street. Reverend David T. Frazier officiating. Interment to follow Roselawn Memory Gardens.
