George Reid Obituary

REID, George Brown, a good man, passed away at home with his family beside him, on August 24, 2021, from metastatic melanoma at the age of 73. Born in Philadelphia, Pa. to William James Reid and Helen Brown Reid, George grew up in N. Plainfield, N.J. He attended the University of Virginia and received both a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA. Following a stint at Newport News Shipbuilding, George began his 30 year career at Philip Morris in Richmond, retiring in 1998 as Vice President of Manufacturing and Technical Services. In his retirement, he found a love of teaching during his 19 years as an adjunct instructor in the physics department at VCU. As a skilled woodworker, George built furniture for family and friends and he took pride in having never called a plumber. He was a founding member of Chesterfield Pickleball, making a new circle of good friends. He also enjoyed the monthly ROMEO breakfasts at Joe's Inn with fellow Philip Morris retirees. George is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara; son, Eric Reid (Ann); daughter, Heather Kisch (B.J.); grandchildren, Reid and Bradley Kisch; brother, James Reid (Jan) of Riverside, Conn.; and nephews, Will and Alex. A private service was held for immediate family. George was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church. Many thanks go to the kind and dedicated employees of Ascend Hospice and Dr. Stan Furman. Many faithful friends, including Sandy, Jim and Ada, Don, Bill and Bill, Cynthia and Karen, have provided love and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Veterans Liberation Services (a homeless veteran shelter), 1201 Hull Street, Richmond, Va. 23224 or Ascend Hospice, 10571 Telegraph Rd., Suite 203, Glen Allen, Va. 23059.
