George John Ripol

1941 - 2024

RIPOL, George John, George John Ripol, 82, of Mt. Holly/Montross, Virginia passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. George was born and grew up in NY. His home for 40+ years in Manassas. He was the beloved husband of Susan Hoge Ripol. George was owner/operator of an engineering equipment company in Manasses, Georator/Athlon. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Poly in N.Y. and received his MBA from George Washington University. George was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Hague, and prior to that a member of All Saints in Manassas.

George met Susan while she was a student at Mary Washington College, and he was stationed at Fort Belvoir. They settled in Manassas, and he started his career at Atlantic Research in Gainesville, Virginia. His final career move was to acquire and run Georator/Athlon.

His family was a real source of pride. He spent many days involved in their competitive swimming careers at Sudley Club in Manassas. George had a lively intellect with a delightfully dry sense of humor. He was an avid gardener. He loved to read. He also took great pleasure in watching the resident eagles fly around, build nests, and squawk at ospreys on Nomini Creek.

He is survived by his wife, Susan, son, William B. Ripol (Laura), daughter, Katharine Zerkle (Steve); grandchildren: Dain Ripol, Anne-Katharine Ripol, Anne Zerkle, Alden Zerkle, and Addison Zerkle. He is also survived by extended family members and friends, including the "Art of Coffee Gang," (and Freckles and Magnolia, his dogs). He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Anne Aylett Ripol and Sunshine, his beautiful golden retriever.

A private burial service will be held with family only. A memorial service will be held sometime in the spring or summer. Date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send contributions to Westmoreland County Museum or the Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck.
