Gloria Hickok Obituary

HICKOK Gloria Cummings Hickok, a native of Colorado who returned to her Denver roots in 1990, passed away on March 19, 2007. For years she lived in Richmond, Virginia, where she and her husband, Eugene W. Hickok, raised five children. Active in numerous pursuits, her first love was her family. Born in Craig, Colorado in 1925, Gloria was the daughter of Col. Barnard and Hilda Cummings of Denver, Colo. Cummings was officially ranked as the 525th man to learn how to fly a plane, saw service in both World Wars and went on to become a prominent attorney. Gloria attended East High School and Denver University, as did her sister, Joyous, and her brother, Barney. Barney went on to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He was reported missing in Korea in 1950. Gloria met and married Eugene Hickok in 1946. Gene Hickok was instrumental in the creation of Levittown, New York and Pennsylvania, and engaged in home construction and real estate until his death in 1984. It was after his passing that Gloria decided to come home to Colorado and her beloved Rocky Mountains, a view which she enjoyed everyday from her residence high atop Larimer Square. An avid reader and devoted Denver Broncos fan, Gloria traveled the world with her sister, Joyous, after the passing of Joyous' husband, Joseph Mahaffey. More recently, she traveled to Richmond, Virginia to attend the wedding of her granddaughter, Kate, and to Zionsville, Indiana to celebrate Christmas with her daughter, Gloria-Jeanne and her husband, David Wilson. Gloria is survived by her five children, Gloria-Jeanne Wilson of Zionsville, Indiana, Eugene Welch Hickok Jr., Barnard Cummings Hickok, both of Richmond, Burdin Harrison Hickok of Redding, Connecticut, and James Butler Hickok of Brattleboro, Vermont. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren, Katharine Hickok Stark, Adam Eugene Hickok, Harrison Welch Hickok, Cody Kessler Hickok, David Lorton Wilson and Karen Francis. Gloria is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Francis, Matthew Francis and T.J. Francis. Gloria will be buried in Richmond, Virginia next to her husband, Gene. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 15, at 11 a.m., graveside at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
