Harry Francis Obituary
March 6, 1951 - October 6, 2024
Harry Edward Francis, Jr., 73, passed away on October 6, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Edward Francis, Sr. and Irma Nemeth Francis; and wife of 42 years, Virginia "Ginny" Francis.
Harry is survived by his son, Michael Francis (Xueying, Rebekah, Michael); daughter, Alison Morrone (Aaron, Jo, Walter); wife, Sally Southall Chewning, and her children: Lewis Little (Cris, Ella, Tripp); Tyler Eagle (Rutsen, Laya, Kelly Grace); Mollie Little, and many beloved family members and friends.
Harry, lovingly known by many as "Hod", was born and raised in Logan, West Virginia. He was a graduate of West Virginia University and began his career in Roanoke, Virginia with VNB Mortgage Corporation. From there, his career took him to Richmond, Virginia where he resided from November 1985 until he passed.
Harry was coming up on his 40th year of membership at Derbyshire Baptist Church. Derbyshire was his family and he treasured his time serving there as a deacon, running the sound board, singing in the choir, and volunteering in just about every area he could.
In addition, he loved to golf any chance he could. Golfing with his friends was his favorite pastime. Recently, his golfing buddies shared that he was the only one who kept his phone on during the round, so as not to miss any potential calls from Michael or Alison. This simple gesture perfectly reflects the kind of man and father he was- always making himself available to others and tirelessly giving his love and joy to those around him.
He will be sorely missed, but his family is comforted by memories of the twinkle in his eye and the joke he was sure to tell at just the right moment. Those who knew him best knew that he always had an adage at the ready. It seems fitting, then, to invite you all to celebrate with us the reality that from here on out, he will forever enjoy "just another day in paradise."
A memorial service will be held on November 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Derbyshire Baptist Church.
