Harry Moore Obituary
MOORE, Harry Galt, Jr., completed his life on February 8, 2022. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Harry was a talented cook, avid golfer, proud Army veteran and passionate Clemson Tiger fan who will be remembered for his calm demeanor, steady dependability and principled integrity.
Born September 9, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia, Harry's life-long love of cooking began in his grandparents' backyard ""Pine Forest Kitchen,"" where he watched his grandfather create BBQ and Brunswick stew feasts for family, neighborhood and church groups. In 1957, he moved with his family to Anderson, South Carolina, where he attended St. John's Methodist Church and graduated from T. L. Hannah High in 1966. The highlight of his young life was being a camper and counselor at Camp Greenville near Caesar's Head, North Carolina. For nine summers he flourished under the guidance of the Camp's staff who instilled in him a love of nature and appreciation of the North Carolina mountains.
Harry attended Clemson University, where he was a member of Sigma Kappa Epsilon fraternity and a charter member of the Delta Nu chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Clemson in 1970 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After active duty in Germany, Harry continued to serve in the Tennessee National Guard and in the U.S. Army Reserve, 87th Maneuver Area Command, Field Artillery Team I, retiring in 1999 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded the Army Commendation medal and Meritorious Service medal. He was a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and Field Artillery Ballistic Missile Officer's Course. Clemson and the Army solidified the values of duty, leadership, and brotherhood for Harry, and those military and college friendships remained a highlight of his life.
Harry earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1989. A marketing professional throughout his career, he held a variety of executive positions during his twenty years with Chattem Consumer Products in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1999, he became Vice President of WF of R in Richmond, Virginia where he remained until his retirement as President in 2018.
A true servant leader, Harry quietly and faithfully shared his time and talents as a volunteer. While in Chattanooga, Tennessee he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Riverbend Festival and served as a Vestry member and Senior Warden for both St. Timothy's Episcopal Church and the Church of the Good Shepherd. In Richmond, he was the founding member of the reorganized Richmond Clemson Club and served on the Clemson University Alumni Association Board of Directors for four years. Active at St. James's Episcopal Church, Harry served on the Vestry, was a head usher, Chairmen of the Finance Committee, and the Men's Cooking Team, and active in the Men's Bible Study. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Goochland County and served as Membership Director and Chairman of the Oktoberfest Festival.
Harry was a constant source of love and support for his children and grandchildren who will remember his dedication to each of them. Any chance he got, he adored playing golf with his sons Sims and Wyatt, and sorely missed those opportunities during his recovery. His camping trips to Holland Lake, Montana with his daughter Frances and his two granddaughters Chapin and Parker were very special and will be cherished by them all forever.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Galt Moore, Sr. and Juliette Sims Moore, his beloved stepson, Albert Hunter White, and his infant granddaughter, Emerson Juliette Graham. Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Beth; sons Thomas Sims Moore and Wyatt DuBose Moore (Sydney); daughter Frances Moore Graham; granddaughters Chapin Lorae Graham and Parker Ellis Graham; sister Julie Moore Lowery (John); mother-in-law Betty Anne Cook Hill; and his nephew and three nieces.
The family wishes to thank all the friends who steadfastly supported and visited Harry during his illness as well as the caregivers of Phalla's Premium Care for their love and devotion.
