Hello. I´m Shirley Johnson. I was surprised to read of Hazels passing. I worked with her for many years at MCV/vcu. We used to laugh all the time. She had such an infectious smile and was always pleasant. I also used to see her at Trinity when I visited with my dad , Ben Johnson who was a member. I remember her talking about Anthony and her daughter all the time She loved her family. I will keep you in my prayers. I would have attended bt I´m just reading the obituary. May God strengthen you always.

To Mr. Avens, Lowanda "Lolo" and Anthony,
We express our deepest sympathy for the loss of Mrs. Avens. Lisa and I will always cherish the memories we spent in your home everyday after school. Every time we saw her, her bright smile always gave us comfort even through difficult times. She referred to us as "her girls" and I could tell her kids and grandkids were very close to her heart.
We hope that you find peace and comfort very soon in the wonderful memories you've shared.
We love you guys,
Linda Broadie-Chambers
