Irene Hawker Obituary
August 17, 1940 - June 23, 2025
Born in Danville, VA August 17, 1940. She passed away peacefully at home before her soul entered heaven on June 23, 2025. She is survived by her husband, Leon W. Hawker, Sr of 64 years. She is also survived by her three children, Susan Hester ( Michael), Leon, Jr (Beth) and Anne Frost Kennedy (Geoffrey) and eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was a cheerleader and on the Homecoming Court at George Washington High School. Irene spent two years at Mary Washington College before marriage. She accepted Christ at an early age and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Danville and later at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile. She was gifted with her hands through knitting, embroidery and many needlepoint projects. Her work decorates many of her children's homes as a reminder of her love for her family.
There will be a celebration of life on July 12 at 1 p.m. at Bon Air Baptist Church 2531 Buford Road Richmond, VA 23235 In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Alzheimer's Association of Richmond in memory of Irene.

I was blessed to know Irene at GW even though I was a year behind her. Such a sweet,kind,friendly
pretty girl she was. Everyone liked Irene! Leon I am sorry for your loss and I know how you feel. I married Bobby Francis at 18 and had 63 years together! Bobby went to Jesus May29, 2023 on Memorial Day! I will be thinking and praying for your family.
