Irving Anderson Obituary

Irving "Boonie" F. Anderson, Jr.

Irving "Boonie" F. Anderson, Jr., died peacefully during the early morning of September 27, 2025. He was born on March 7, 1943, in Richmond, Va., to the late Irving and Margaret Anderson; and was preceded in death by his son, David.

A lifelong resident of the Richmond/Chesterfield area, he attended John Marshall High School, worked for 30 years at DuPont, and retired from Cogentrix Energy after 16 years. He served in many community and athletic organizations throughout his life as a coach in various sports, Scout Master in the Boy Scouts, and the Belmont UMC Food Pantry. More recently, he was active in the Chester United Methodist Church and particularly enjoyed singing in the choir.

Boonie was a fun loving, kind, and generous husband and father, who dedicated his life to uplifting his family and friends. He was happiest surrounded by loved ones on holidays, birthdays, and vacations; especially if music, a good meal, and a golf course were involved. One could often find him working in his yard, tending to flower beds, or roaming the woods enjoying the beauty and adding his own unique vision. Boonie always had a kind word for everyone he met, a deeply caring person who touched many lives.

Boonie is survived by his loving wife, Mickey, of 61 years; his remaining children, Kip and wife, Mary, Scot and wife, Katherine, and Matt and wife, Michelle; along with grandchildren, Liam, Darby, Cullen, Madeline, Ryan, Alexandra, Noah, Morgan, Jack, and Zachary. He is also survived by his sister, Jackie Smith; brothers, Ray and Mark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Road, Chester, Va., on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 6 pm to 8 pm. A celebration of life will be held at Chester United Methodist Church, located at 12132 Percival Street, Chester, Va., on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chester United Methodist Church or the Belmont UMC Food Pantry. Online condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.jtmorriss.com.
