J.E. Davis Obituary

DAVIS, J. E. Causey, J. E. Causey Davis died on October 11, 2023 in Richmond, VA at age 87. He was born on May 7, 1936 to J.E. Clayton Davis and Marian McLean Davis. Survivors include Beverley Harris Davis, his wife of 62 years; three daughters, Georgiann Clayton Davis, Maud Davis Carver and husband Charles, Kate Davis Bowen and husband Michael; as well as four grandchildren, Ryan T.C. Carver, William C. Carver, Davis A.L.Teitelbaum and Mollie A.B.Teitelbaum. Survivors also include his sister Katherine Davis Moore and his sister in law, Carol D. Davis.

He was a graduate of Virginia Tech where he was a member of the Highty Tighties Regimental Band, received a degree in business administration and was commissioned an officer in the Army Reserve. His nine-year service concluded as Captain and Commanding Officer, Company E, 5435th Quartermaster Replacement Training Center.

His banking career spanned 42 years where he was President/ CEO of Citizens Savings and Loan, Capital Savings and Loan, Heritage Savings and Loan and CommonWealth Bank. After Commonwealth Bank was merged into First Community Bank he continued to serve as Regional President for two years before retiring in 2005. During an eight-year span as a banking consultant in the 1980s he served as interim CEO at three institutions in Lynchburg, VA, Delray Beach, Florida and Washington, VA, in addition to conducting seminars and consulting assignments under the banner of Thrift Resources, and Madison Financial Group.

He attributed his best management training to the Boy Scouts where he attained the rank of Eagle and the Corp of Cadets at Va. Tech, where as a member of the Regimental Band, garnered first prize out of the 50 bands in the President Eisenhower Second Inaugural Parade.

Activities included the Richmond Jaycees, Big Brothers of America, Board of Directors of The Retail Merchants Association of Greater Richmond, Board of Directors of the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and Trustee of the Henricus Foundation. He also served as President of the 100 Club of Metropolitan

Richmond, President of the River Road Citizens Association, President of the Highland Springs Business and Professional Association and a member of the Tuesday furniture repair team at Caritas.

He was member of the Richmond Cotillion, Honorary Life Member of the Commonwealth Club and The Virginia Society of the Sons of the Revolution. As a member of First Presbyterian Church he was active as deacon, elder, choir member, care and concern team member and Men's Fellowship Group leader.

He greatly enjoyed playing racquetball, curing Virginia hams, restoring antique furniture, travel to Europe and woodworking.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church Richmond, Friday October 20, 2023 at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow, 4602 Cary Street Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highty-Tighty Class of 1958 Scholarship Fund, Virginia Tech Foundation, Blacksburg, VA 24061.

I have known the Davis family for many years as Kate and I went to school together from elementary through college. Mr. Davis was a wonderful man. I know how much he meant to his family and SO many friends! He will be missed here on earth. Praying for all of you.
