James Oates Obituary

James F. Oates, III M.D., of Richmond, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at home. Born in Evanston, Ill., Dr. Oates attended Phillips Exeter Academy, Princeton University and Cornell University Medical School in New York City. He was an avid hunter, fly fisherman and aviator. Dr. Oates is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Chris, David, Katie and Tony; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2005 at Grace and Holy Trinity Church, 8 N. Laurel Street at 2:30 p.m. On-street parking is available on Laurel Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Endowment for the Arts at The Collegiate School, N. Mooreland Road, or to Grace and Holy Trinity Church.
