James Palmer Obituary

PALMER, James Frederick "Freddie", passed away on December 21, 2022. Mr. Palmer proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from which he retired on disability. He also was a 58 year Masonic Veteran of Westhampton Lodge 302 A.F. & A.M. where he served as Worshipful Master in 2010. He also served as High Priest of Washington Royal Arch Chapter #9 in 2010 to 2011. Mr. Palmer was a member of the Air Force Association, Air Force Sergeants Association and The American Military Society. He was a graduate of V.C.U. in 1971. In his later years he took up many hobbies including coin collecting, crafting wreaths and jewelry, reading about WWll, working puzzles and fishing. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy C. Perham Palmer; and his second wife, Mary Franklin Fulghum-Palmer. He is also survived by three children, two daughters, Julie Gale Schwartz of Salt Lake City, Utah and Laurie Susanne Nguyen (Dave) of Glen Alen, Va; and one son, James Kevin Palmer of Richmond, Va. He is survived by his five grandchildren, Joshua Parker and Amanda Schwartz of Salt Lake City, Utah and Christopher, Jordan and Olivia Nguyen of Glen Allen, Va. He leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews to mourn his passing. Arrangements will be handled by Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, Va. 23229. Visitation and viewing will be held at Woodys on Thursday, December 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a graveside service with military honors at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Ave, Richmond, Va. 23228 on January 4 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Palmer requests that contributions in his memory be made to Feed the Children, Wounded Warrior Project or the American Heart Association.

We knew him as Freddie. We were double first cousins, our dads were brothers and our moms were sisters. He has such a will to live that God gave him an additional 60+ years of life. He was the oldest cousin on our mother's side of the family. He will be missed. RIP Freddie.
