Sullivan; and his six daughters, Kathy Sullivan, Julie McGovern, Ellen Carroll, Maureen Blackwood, Mary Margaret McMurtry and Cara Radoll. He considered himself lucky to have five outstanding sons-in-law, Michael McGovern, Brian Carroll, Terry Blackwood, Dan McMurtry and Patrick Radoll. Jim Sullivan found great joy in his 13 grandchildren, Allison Tarkow and Jamie Holmes, Nicholas McGovern, Brendan, Moira and Ian Carroll, Conor, Mallory and Emma Blackwood, Caleb and Aidan McMurtry, Jordan and Eliza Radoll. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the James Edward Fisher Memorial Trust, which supports the educational needs of the children of disabled or deceased police officers. Dear Shirley and Family,

We were so very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. It has been more than 40 years since our husbands went to the State Police Academy together and we visited together with the children. Then we were stationed in Falls Church and the Sullivans in Woodbridge. Such a shame we have let so many years pass by, but we do have our fond memories of years passed. We send our deepest sympathy to each of you in your loss and will keep you in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Pat and Jim Wolford

Mrs. Sullivan and Family,

I was very sorry to learn this morning about the passing of Mr. Sullivan. I will always have great memories of him from the early days when we were kids in Occoquan and at the pool during the summer. It's been 20+ years since I've seen you guys, but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope the following poem provides you comfort, as well as in the future.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there, I do not sleep

I am a thousand winds that blow

I am the diamond glints on snow

I am the sunlight on ripened grain

I am the gentle autumn rain

When you awaken in the morning's hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight

I am the soft stars that shine at night

Do not stand at my grave and cry

I am not there, I did not die

Dear Brian, Ellen, Brenden, Moira and Ian,

We are so sorry to hear of your loss

and wish we could be there with you.

You are all in our prayers.

I always loved to hear the stories Ellen would tell about her father raising all daughters. I am sure he was exasperated at times but always loved and knew he was loved by all the girls. Keep those stories alive! They are a great testament to a wonderful father.

May the Peace of the Lord be with you all,

Shirley, it is with great sadness that we send this message. It is even a deeper sadness that we haven't kept in touch with you and Jim. He was a great man, and a valued member of the community. Ever time we were around him, it was a time of good fellowship. Jim was a large influence on our son David becoming a law enforcment officer, who had since retired from the Gloucester County Sheriff's Department.

God gives us many treasures...Jim was one of them.

You and the family are in our prayers.

My deepest condolences to the entire family. Jim and I go way back to my days in early 1976 when I was a Dumfries officer, later as a Magistrate, and finally as Chief in Quantico. He was always available to offer his sound advise and I will miss him deeply. I also share following from Retired Special Agent Dan Gray, now living in San Diego, former SAC Quantico. He asked me to pass on his condolences and prayers to the family and that he too would miss him

What a great privilege it was for me to meet and care for Jim the short time he was in the hospital. After only talking with him for a few minutes I felt like I had known him forever...or wish I had. After meeting Shirley and all the girls I then knew that Jim was as great a man as I had thought. I have thought of your family often and was deeply saddend to read of Jim's passing...but I am happy that he did it on his terms and surrounded by his loving family.

I pray that God be with you in your time of sorrow and I hope all the loving, fun memories you have of Jim will ease your pain. He is at peace now and will never know pain or suffering again.

Thinking of you all,

Kim Sushil R.N.

My thoughts and sympathies are with your family at this time. I have fond memories of Col. Sullivan from the time I was a kid playing soccer with Cara to growing up and seeing him every few weeks at the Barber Shop I worked at in Woodbridge until a few years ago. He always made me laugh about how important is was for him to get his haircut before the St. Patrick's Day Parades he attended. He is truly a great loss for the Community as well. I always appreciated his honesty in correcting me when I was wrong, and praising me when I was right, as a person and as an Officer. People like him are hard to come by. I am thankful for the chance in life to have known him. I wish all of your family peace and comfort, and please know he had a positive impact in a lot of lives, I am sure it was not just mine. Bless you all. Nicky Clark
