James Calvin Sutherland Sr.

James Calvin Sutherland Sr., 78, of Richmond, died Friday, February 14, 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann McLeod Sutherland; and a brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Louis Hinton McLeod. He is survived by four sons, Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Sutherland Jr., William Scott Sutherland and Tina Harris, Louis Hinton Sutherland and Joseph Bryan Sutherland; two grandchildren, Tyler Ann Sutherland and Jessica Lee Sutherland; a brother, William George Sutherland; a sister, Frances Sutherland Kirk; and his loyal dog, Sam. Mr. Sutherland was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII of the 87th Infantry Division, having served in the European theater, and a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a retired District Sales Manager of 29 years with the Ford Motor Co. His family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the College of William and Mary or the American Lung Association.
