Bill was born on April 8, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan to the late William & Mildred Sutherland. While attending the University of Michigan he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country but during his short enlistment he suffered great injuries which limited him his whole life. Upon his discharge from the Army he continued his education at University of Michigan and started life again. He lived in various places like California and the Virgin Islands where he managed a yacht business.
Bill loved the "water life", whether it was boating, water skiing or simply sitting with his toes in the sand that was his most favorite place to be. He and Janet spent many summers traveling with their RV and enjoying the Michigan winters from afar in Punta Gorda and Naples, Florida. They also share many memories from the cabin in Gaylord, Michigan.
When Bill was able, he spent some years working in International Disaster Relief where he traveled afar. He was also a licensed personal insurance adjustor where he enjoyed helping others.
Bill had an eclectic sense of style which navigated his side hustle as an Ebay seller. He constantly was selling and buying and had quite a collection of antiques!
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Sutherland; step-son, Joel E. Goodman; nephews, Tom (Sarah) Richardson and Mike Richardson; several great-nephews and great niece. Bill is further survived by many dear friends and close neighbors and his furry companion, Bella.
