Jane Chapin Obituary

CHAPIN, Jane Scott, of Richmond, Va, passed away February 1, 2024, at 78 years old, in her home on the James River, to join her husband, Lucius Thacker Chapin. She is certainly thrilled to finally meet Walt Disney and to be sipping margaritas with her step-granddaughter, Victoria Sanger. She is survived by her three sons, Scott, Tristan and Lucius Tyler, and his wife, Elisabeth. "Grand Scott" and Brandt Chapin, her grandson, shared countless wonderful experiences together. She found great joy in coming to know the children of her new daughter-in-law, Richard, Victoria, John, Michael and Sophia Sanger. Jane Scott is known to so many as a person with a tremendous heart and mind, always remembering the names and stories of all she met with deep fondness. Her passion for the world came out in all directions but particularly in caring for the family home, adoring children, traveling the globe and collecting Disney artwork. Over her lifetime she was actively involved in The Woman's Club of Richmond and the VMFA, among other local societies. Her own and her family's education were tremendously important to her at TJHS, STC, W&M, UR and UoC. A cradle Episcopalian, she was raised at Grace and Holy Trinity. She then spent the remaining 60 years at All Saints where her boys all sang in the choir. She was an avid supporter of the Massey Cancer Center, who took such good care of her husband, in his battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Richmond, Va.

Jane Scott (always addressed as "Jane Scott", not "Jane") was my cousin by marriage, the widow of my late second cousin Lucius Chapin. She loved the College of William add Mary (she was class of 1967) and was active in the Richmond alumni society throughout her life. Always a Virginia history enthusiast, particularly with Lucius´ King George County heritage, she told me that she especially enjoyed Dr. Harold Fowler´s history class at W&M. We had many good times with Jane Scott and we will miss her very much.

Jane Scott and I were cousin's on the Bigger side of her family. We met at age 12. We could each think up something to get into. The thing Jane Scott enjoyed the most was "Dancing". I am so glad she got to travel- pretty much covered the world. She loved her Family, her friends, her home and most of all" her Lucius". I will miss her!!

I met Jane Scott at the baby pool at Southampton Recreation Center. Since then, we have become close friends. I will really miss her. She was a lovely person.
