Jeffrey Alexander Obituary

ALEXANDER, Jeffrey Martin, 69, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on March 1, 2026. He was born at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX on February 10,1957 to Dr. Edward Lee and Jean Maddy Alexander. Raised in Newport News, VA, Jeff attended Hampton Roads Academy where he earned All-State honors in tennis and held the record for free throws in basketball. After declining recruitment opportunities from several Virginia universities, Jeff graduated from the University of Virginia in 1979 with a BA in Economics and stayed in Charlottesville the following five years developing his carpentry and electrical skills before moving to take care of the family farm. He often said his favorite day of the year was when he and Rhonda hosted our many family reunions. Jeff worked in the Information Technology field at Virginia Power in Richmond for 24 years where he met Rhonda, his beloved life partner. He deeply valued the lifelong friendships he formed in high school, through work, on the golf course, and during annual canoe trips-friendships that brought him great joy and remained an important part of his life. Retiring at age 53, his love of music inspired him to teach himself guitar, becoming an accomplished player. The song he wrote, titled "The Porch Song," has become a family favorite. Jeff was an excellent creative writer, reflecting on the natural beauty that surrounded him and the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time with Rhonda and the many farm cats that adopted Jeff as their caretaker over the last 45 years. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and his great niece, Everly Willingham.

He is survived by his partner of 35 years, Rhonda Everett; his siblings, Dr. Edward Lee Alexander III (CeeCee), Leslie Alexander Leavenworth (Paul), Gail Alexander Mudrick(Paul), and Jeanne Alexander Terrell; 42 nieces and nephews across two generations with 3 on the way! A celebration of life will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to FBC Compassion Ministry at First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Avenue, Richmond, VA 23220.

I enjoyed many golf rounds where Jeff and George would play a match against Mike and I. Jeff always had a smile, even bigger when he won the match.

Jeff was a special, one of a kind individual. Words are not capable of expressing my grief and the overwhelming sadness that surrounds me and his family. To Rhonda, his life partner and the love of his life, the shock and overwhelming sadness will take time to heal. Be gentle to yourself and know that you are surrounded by family and friends who love you very much, and will walk with you every step of this journey.
Much love,
