John Burton Obituary

John Burton

October 22, 2024

John Carter Burton, Jr., 88, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Janice G. Burton; children, Christina Stanfield (Kurt), Elizabeth Brown (Jerry) and John Carter Burton, III (Suzanne); grandchildren, William Tyndall, Jr. (Morgan), Victoria Pochucha (Cullen), Kelsea Burton (Nick), Holly Brown, Carter Burton (Alli), Burton Brown, Graeson Burton, Andrew Stanfield (Annie Rae); and four great-grandchildren, one on the way, and the anticipation of many more. Mr. Burton served honorably in the U.S. Army. He retired as the Vice President of Pricing from Overnite Transportation with a 30 year career. He was proud, first and foremost, of his family, and also of receiving his Marine Officer Captain's License from the U.S. Coast Guard and achieving authorization to practice before the Interstate Commerce Commission. He was the first president of the Manchester Shrine Club. A devoted husband, father, and fisherman, he enjoyed a lifetime of boating and fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, but most of all, he loved his wife, Janice. He leaves an incredible legacy.

A Celebration of his life will be held at October 31, 2024 at 2 p.m., at Winfree Church, 13617 Midlothian Turnpike, Midlothian, Va. 23113. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the church or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.blileys.com.

I will always remember us growing up and going to Bubby's each for a wonderful trip. He was a great friend and like a brother. There were eight of us sadly only four remaining. I will always remember the good times, the joys, the lies, the stories we told. Rest in peace my friend. Love Buddy.
