Please know that the Radford University community benefited greatly because of Mr. Clayton's wisdom and expertise during the time he served on the Board of Visitors. He also was one of the kindest gentlemen I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Our condolences to the family.

To Lynne,Jennifer and Khristanne our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

John and I spent many hours together driving up and down the M6 motorway in the UK and staying at the Derby Lodge Hotel, working at the Jaguar Halewood plant. I have so many happy memories of those times. For John I know that the work we did at Halewood made him so proud and I like to think of it as a testimony to his ability to help people see and fulfill their true potential. We have lost a wonderful colleague, a great leader but most importantly for me I have lost a true friend somone who was equally loved by my family. We send our love. Lyndon, Helen, Jonathan and Anna.

I have met one of John's daughters

and have known his former wife for 10 years, and from them, could glean, this was a kind, compassionate, communicative and willing to learn human being.

I will be there Sunday to share in the celebration of his life well lived.

Thank you,

Leila

It has been one of the greatest priveleges of my life to know John. Spending time with him was relaxing, joyful and safe. I knew that whenever I was in his company there would always be an abundance of laughter and learning. John created a learning environment wherever he went. It came naturally to him to understand others, care about them and stay free of judgement. Working with him was like being in the presence of pure electricity. He is an unforgettable gentleman.

My thoughts go to Lynne and all the family

To John's Family -

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you endure John's death. My special rememberances of John include morning prayer meetings in his room at Senn-Delaney company gatherings. John's presence created a peace and spirtuality that brought out the best in those present. He provided a model for us in reverence for the human spirit and thinking first of others. I will miss him and will be inspired by him. I hope that time and the knowledge that he made the world better will ease the pain of his loss.

Dear Clayton Family: What a very wonderful man he was and will continue to be in our hearts. Thank you for sharing him with us. Here are a few words by Chaucer from The Canterbury Tales, which could have been written for John himself:

There was a Knight, a most distinguished man,

Who from the day on which he first began

To ride abroad had followed chivalry,

Truth, honour, generousness and courtesy.

He was of sovereign value in all eyes,

And though so much distinguished, he was wise

And in his bearing modest as a maid,

He never yet a boorish thing had said,

In all his life to any, come what might;

He was a true, a perfect gentle-knight.

John was the dearest of friends, the kindest person I've known and a great leader. He will be missed by me and countless others. He was lucky to be one of those people whose vocation and avocation were one in the same - helping people grow. He helped me more in my ten years with him than I could have ever imagined. He was the best I've ever seen at helping people get beyond themselves and develop. He was a great singer and the funniest dancer I've seen. I loved to watch him dance. It was all him - joyful, fun and free of ego. We should all learn to live the way John danced. The last meeting John and I had started with a prayer, led by him. He was with the Lord then and I know he is with Him now. My love and prayers go to Lynn, the girls, all his family and friends. The joy he brought to each of us will be with us for a lifetime and always outway any pain we have now.
