John Day Obituary
February 22, 1943 - May 16, 2024
John Robert ("Bob") Day III, 81, of Noank (Groton), Ct., died May 16, 2024, at the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Ct. He was born Feb. 22, 1943, in Richmond, the son of John R. Day Jr. and Gertrude (Solomon) Day.
Mr. Day graduated in 1961 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, and in 1966 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. with B.S. degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Biology. He later earned an M.B.A. from the University of New Haven in Ct. He was employed by Pfizer Inc. for 40 years, working in Groton, Ct., and then New York City, eventually serving as Plant Manager for Pfizer's original manufacturing facility in Brooklyn, N.Y. He retired in 2006.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years and her family; his daughter Anne (Day) Gaudet and her husband Tom of Charlton, Mass.; son John Day IV of Westerly, R.I.; granddaughter Julie Gaudet of Charlton, Mass.; granddaughter Michelle Gaudet of Boston, Mass.; brother-in-law David Culler and niece Jill Culler, both of Ellicott City, Md. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Cecelia (Day) Culler.
A memorial service hosted by his daughter Anne will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Worcester, MA. The service will be live streamed at facebook.com/FirstBaptistWorc for those who are not able to attend in person. Instead of sending flowers to the family, please consider making a donation to a charity or organization of your choice.

To the family of John Day. He and I were workmates from the early seventies until ca. 2003-2004. I worked with John on a project in Groton Ct. in 1972 and through the intervening years in Groton, New York, Brooklyn and in Terre Haute. John was an intellectually curious person, fun to work with and a gentleman. I remember John well and always in a positive way. May his soul. rest in peace. AL
