John Garland Puryear

PURYEAR, John Garland, age 86, of Elmont, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at home, surrounded by his family after a period of declining health. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel Puryear; and his three brothers, Pete, Paul and Billy. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Puryear; daughter, Susan P. Tyler and husband, Bob; son, Greg Puryear and wife, Cindi; grandchildren, J.W. Tyler, Phillip Tyler, Jade Perkins, Troy Puryear, Kristen Mack and Lisa Brown (each one his favorite). He also leaves behind 13 very much loved great-grandchildren and four nephews and many very dear friends. John was a member of Forest Grove United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Richmond Region Antique Automobile Club and the Ashland Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Virginia National Guard earlier in life. John was a retail business owner, land developer and collector of antique cars and antique toys.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, Va. 23228, where a service will be held the following day at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Christian Church Cemetery, 14196 Ashland Road, Glen Allen, Va. 23059. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in John's memory to Forest Grove United Methodist Church, 13384 Ashland Road, Ashland, Va. 23005.
