Jonah Adams Obituary

God fashioned a plan that would require 50 years, 11 weeks, and 1 day to reach its fruition. Jonah Adams Jr. was born August 17, 1953 in Richmond, Va., to the proud parents of Linda P. Adams and the late Jonah Adams Sr. He was the oldest of 12 children. Jonah confessed his belief in Jesus Christ at the early age of seven and joined Macedonia Baptist Church on August 17, 1960. He served God during his youth through the usher board and youth choir ministries. He also served on several church committees, and most recently the Deacon Ministry. He was a member of the Trustee Board, the Financial Committee, and the Dr. Michelle Powell Scholarship Fund Committee. He was ordained as a deacon of Macedonia Baptist Church on January 27, 2002. The distance between Deacon Adams’ home and church never interfered with his continuous support of his church because of his deep and abiding love for the Lord, his family, his pastor, and his church family. He was a 1972 graduate of the Greensville County High School where he was an accomplished athlete, especially in football. In 1979, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Tuskegee University. In Alabama he found the love of his life, Gloria Jene Williamson-Sprowls and they were married in June, 1984. He was the loving father of five children, Monica, Brandon, Dawn, Tayloria, and Jonah III. He was also the proud grandfather of two boys, Adrian and Trayvon; and two girls, Nya and Aiyanna. For 25 years he served as an engineer for Philip Morris USA in Richmond, Va. During that time he achieved both manager and senior engineer status and traveled internationally for the company. In addition to his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, precious memories will be cherished by his devoted mother, Linda P. Adams of Emporia, Va.; five brothers, Jerry (Sheryl) of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Jovair of Chesterfield, Va., James Ray (Lisa) of Lithonia, Ga., Jonathan (Edrice) of Douglasville, Ga., and Juan of Norcross, Ga.; six sisters, Linda J. Adams of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Jerlis (Joseph) Dade of Glen Allen, Va., Jannis (James) Fields of Baltimore, Md., Jackqulyn Adams of Petersburg, Va., Dr. Jean Adams-Sow of Charlotte, N.C., and Judy Adams of Norcross, Ga. His love and support of family endeared him to his many wonderful nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2003 at the Macedonia Baptist Church, Emporia, Va., the Rev. Colonious Avent, pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in the Adams Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2003, at the Macedonia Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the staff of the James M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, (804) 732-8911. jmwilkersonsince1874.com.

I worked with Jonah at PM, and in reminiscing this weekend, found his obituary. He was a solid engineer and a good man. He left us too soon, and our world is diminished by his leaving.
May God grant you peace and good memories.

Mrs. Linda Adams and family,

It is with deepest sympathy to hear of the loss of your son Jonah Jr. I reflect back on the Sunday's that we would all attend service at Macadonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dixon and the good times of fellowship in GOD house. Jonah, Thomas Ross and I would be very happy to see each other on every 2nd Sunday and look forward to hear your awesome singng for the LORD. Jonah and I became good friends and would share stories of Poplar Mount Baptist (my home church) and Macadonia Baptist along with other cousins and friends that we met throughout our visit of the attendance at local churches. I know that GOD has come down and taken one of his precious angel but as we know GOD does nothing too big for us to handle through him. My prayers go out to you, your family, Jonah Jr. wife, children and grandchildren. May you be comfort to know that friends care and are praying for you to be blessed through Jesus Christ.

In Christ Love,

Faye Harrison Harris(daughter Lacie Harrison and the late Roy E. Harrison, Ante, VA)

Gloria,

My heart goes out to you and the rest of the family. Keep the faith and should there ever be anything that I can do for you please let me know. Jonah was a real leader in the family and had a large influence on me. I credit my success to the positive influences Jonah had on me from a child until now. I will miss my brother but I know that I will see him again. "Rest easy Jonah".
