Joseph Thomas Geiger

GEIGER, Joseph Thomas, 83, of Richmond, Va., died on January 11, 2021, in the presence of his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Watson Geiger and Inez Moorshead Geiger.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Sue Geiger; his daughter, Mikaela King (Adam); granddaughter, Sorcia Elizabeth King; brother, Oliver Geiger (Carol); nephews, Boyd (Liz) and Michael (Mary) Geiger; great-nephew and niece, twins, Chance and Emma Geiger.

He was born on a farm in Newton, Kansas, which nurtured his great love of the outdoors. Joe had an encyclopedic knowledge of the wildlife wherever he lived or visited, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting birds (dinner!) from his little boat, right up until the recent onset of his illness.

Joe graduated with a B.A. in business from Colorado College, by which time he was already an entrepreneur. During his long career, he created a number of companies, among them Performance Aircraft, after he earned his pilot's license, and Orca Yachts, where he obtained patents for his innovative designs of sport fishing boats.

In retirement he authored two books on entrepreneurship, taught classes on business in several colleges in the Richmond area and served on the board of Lyric Opera Virginia. He had so many interests and such a zest for life.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 2 p.m. in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of Joe's life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Operation Smile or a charity of your discretion.
