Joseph Franklin Viverette

May 13, 1925 - February 11, 2025

Joseph Franklin Viverette, retired Senior Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and active civic leader died on February 11, 2025 in Tappahannock, Virginia.

A native of North Carolina, he graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School where he served as Senior Class President. Mr. Viverette served in the United States Navy during World War II in both the European and Pacific theaters, participating in the D-Day invasion. Following military service he returned to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated with a degree in business. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity in which he served as President. He also was a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University, in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Active in community affairs, he served as a Director and Treasurer of the Richmond Cerebral Palsy Center. He was a former board member and Vice President of the Shepherd's Center of Richmond, He was former Vice President of the Richmond Personnel Executives Association. He was chosen as "Boss of the Year" in 1967 by the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Secretaries Association. He was also a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Virginia.

Mr. Viverette was a lifelong Episcopalian and had served as Vestryman and Senior Warden of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. He also served as Chairman and Treasurer of the St. Thomas Day School. At the time of his death, he was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church where he had served as Vestryman, Church School Superintendent, choir member, Assistant Treasurer, member and Chairman of the Endowment Fund.

Mr. Viverette was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Alice Steele Viverette, of Richmond, Va. He is survived by their four children: Dr. Joseph Franklin Viverette, Jr. (Dolores) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Margaret V. Gibson (Gene), of Richmond, Va.; Robert S. Viverette (Catherine) of Bruington, Va.; and William J. Viverette (Karen), of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 1101 Forest Avenue, Richmond, VA 23229 on Friday, February 28 at 2 p.m., following a private burial that morning at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church (St. Matthews General Fund) or one's favorite charity.
