Judith Bovio Obituary

BOVIO, Judith Ann Slocum, was born to Gladys and Clark Slocum in Ithaca, New York. The youngest of four children, Judy was energetic and busy, constantly trying to keep up with her two older brothers and her sister. Judy agreed to a blind date with an Ithaca College student. That blind date was John Bovio Jr., love of her life, and they shared 60 years of marriage. Judy and John started their married life in Long Island, New York. They welcomed three children, John, Lisa and Lynn, to complete their family. Judy ran the household, volunteering and assisting with both boy and girl scouts for her children. In 1974, they moved their family to San Rafael, California for a career opportunity for John. The family thrived and Judy started working outside of the home in retail, going on to become the owner of a specialty children's store, McKenzie's for Children, in San Rafael. Not to be outdone by her children, she went back to school, earning her associate's degree in medical assisting and enjoying a second career. Once they retired, Judy and John spent the winter months and about half of the year in Mazatlán, Mexico, enjoying golf and a community of close friends. Judy was thrilled to become a grandmother and after the first, was only known as "Nana." John and Judy moved to Richmond, Virginia to take part in the daily lives of their seven grandchildren. With six of them being girls, Nana loved nothing more taking them to lunch and shopping. Every one of her grandchildren loved their time with her, her sass and their inside jokes. Judith Slocum Bovio is survived by her son, John Richard Bovio III of Portland, Oregon; her daughters, Lisa Bovio Randolph of San Rafael, California and Lynn Bovio Williams (Gordy) of Richmond, Virginia; her grandchildren, Peyton Jr., Julia, Emily and Sarah Randolph, Sadie, Ella and Becca Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews across the country. She was greatly loved and will be missed! In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Cedars of Marin – cedarslife.org.
