Robert Monk

1954 - 2026

Robert Louis Monk "Bobby" 71, from Glen Allen, VA, passed away on January 31, 2026.

Born on November 20, 1954, Bobby was a graduate of Armstrong High School and went on to build a long career as a cabinetmaker. His craftsmanship extended beyond cabinetry-he was a gifted woodworker who constructed acoustic and electric guitars from wood he had thoughtfully collected over the years.

Bobby's love for music was evident in his passion for playing the guitar and piano and his deep appreciation for blues music. He was also a devoted environmentalist who championed recycling and composting long before it became common practice.

Those who knew Bobby will remember him as someone who "never met a stranger." Friendly and kind to both people and animals, he made time to chat with neighbors during his daily walks and always carried peanuts for his favorite squirrel. Over the years, he also shared his home and heart with many beloved cats. Even during his illness, Bobby remained upbeat, often saying, "I know I am a lucky man".

He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela S. Monk; daughters, Sara O. Monk and Samantha A. Monk; sister, Janet M. Wright (Rusty); brothers-in-law Arthur R. Spencer (Melissa) and James E. Spencer (Leda); and sister-in-law Barbara S. Biggerstaff (Bruce), along with many extended family and friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, William L. Monk; his mother, Mary Elizabeth R. Monk; and his mother-in-law, Julia A. Spencer.
