I am in tears right now, as I read about this for the first time. Ms. Myrick was my Latin teacher for 3 years in high school. She was the only teacher I ever had that I felt had any interest in me and my success, and didn't just see me as another student to get through the year. The Latin I learned in her class still benefits me to this day, and the life lessons she taught me will stay with me always. High school was a pretty rotten time in my life and I don't know if I would have made it through without her. She had a profound impact on my life - she still does, in fact. I am deeply saddened by this, but filled with joy at the outpouring of love and respect I see for her on various websites.

Mrs. Myrick was my favorite teacher. I had failed Latin with another teacher my freshmen year and was worried but determined to take it again. I got Mrs. Myrick and she helped me so much. I ended up taking two more years of Latin and got my advanced diploma. She also always said, "you are loved and special" to everyone in class. I can say, that was one of the most impactful things any teacher has ever told me. And she didn't say it as a one off. She let us know everyday, that we were. I am 36 now with a 2 year old and a 5 month old and every day before every nap I let them know they are loved and special too. Thank you Katie, Mrs. Myrick, you were a source of such great calmness in an otherwise turbulent world. I know her family already knew what a special person she was but I hope another story might help right now. She was truly a bespoke soul, one who is loved and special. May her memory be a blessing always.

"You are loved and special." The lesson of a life time by one of the purest souls ever.
In my heart, she will be remembered forever.
God bless you my Teacher for Latin and more importantly life.

Katie was one of the kindest and most caring women I have ever known. She loved her family, her students, and her animals. She was a wonderful colleague at Clover Hill. I will never forget her.

Ms. Myrick was my most favorite teacher at Clover Hill.
She made us really appreciate the Latin language. We may
have tested her patience, however she showed us her love. So sorry for your loss.

She was my Latin teacher for 5 years. We loved her so much--one yr we pitched together and bought her a ring inscribed with Carpe Diem. She always told us to be sweet, loving, and kind. Something I still say to my kids.

I am so sorry to hear that Magistra is no longer with us. I remember many happy conversations with her as she taught me new Latin words during our restroom duties and on the faculty bus to graduations. I know how she cared for her mother in her last days as well.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My family and I will be praying for your family.

Your mom was a one of a kind teacher, friend and mom! She loved you and her family more than anything in the world! I will never forget how she would say goodbye - "Remember you are loved and special!" I always felt that way when I was around Katie! What a blessing she was to us all!

I taught with Katie at Clover Hill High School. She was such a pleasant individual to be in the presence of. I once time taught math in a room she taught in (not math) and there was not much board space. She was so understanding (and cooperative) as we found a way to use that small board in such a way that it worked for both of us.
I'm saddened to hear of her "loss". It's been more than 23 years since I taught with Katie. Needless to say, "she is not forgotten".
