Kim Marsh Obituary
MARSH, Dr. Kim E., It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Kim Marsh (née Samuel Stamper) of Powhatan, Va., a remarkable neurosurgeon, beloved husband, caring father, and doting grandfather. Dr. Marsh, aged 74, departed this world on June 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. His loss is deeply felt by all whose lives he touched.
Born in Marion County, Indiana, on March 6, 1949, Dr. Marsh was a man of exceptional intellect and unwavering dedication. From a young age, his passion for medicine and his commitment to helping others set him on a path towards greatness. He completed his medical studies at Washington University in St. Louis, his neurosurgical residency at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, his neurosurgical fellowship at University of Pennsylvania, and then started his practice out of Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. In 1986, he moved his practice to Richmond and began The Institute for Low Back Care at Stuart Circle Hospital. His brilliant career in neurosurgery spanned over three decades.
Dr. Marsh was renowned within the medical community, and he pushed the boundaries of neurosurgical knowledge, fearlessly exploring new techniques and technologies that supported the care of all his patients.
Beyond his exceptional accomplishments as a neurosurgeon, Kim was a dedicated family man. His loving wife, Mary (née Tate), stood by his side throughout their 23 years of marriage, providing support in times of both triumph and challenge. He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Claude and Mona Stamper; his first wife and mother of his three children, Carol (née McMullen); his sisters, Martha and Karen (née Mary) Stamper; and his brother, Murriel Stamper. Kim is survived by his brother, Larry Stamper; as well as his children, Kim Marsh Jr. (Jessica), Jeff Marsh (Alina), Julie Marsh, and Cameron Moore (Matthew); and his three grandchildren, Stella, Ruby, and Declan.
Kim was a devoted and adored grandfather. He took great delight in sharing stories, offering guidance, and imparting his wisdom to the next generation. His pancakes will be greatly missed. The joy and pride he felt in watching his family grow were immeasurable, and his influence will resonate within our lives.
Kim was known for his big heart and attention to detail. An accomplished Scuba diver and yachtsman, he loved being in and on the water. In his retirement, he became the proud owner of the M/Y High Seas and chartered the vessel from Martha's Vineyard to the Caribbean, providing many fun adventures and memories for those lucky enough to be onboard. He was known for making any project look difficult and a difficult project look impossible. He was so good at starting his projects, though finishing…
He wanted to be remembered as having left this world a little better than how he found it. He was often known for saying, "Do good, and do it well." And he did.
The loss of Kim leaves an indescribable void in the lives of his family and friends. As we bid farewell, let us remember him with deep admiration, gratitude, love, and respect. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his loved ones find solace in the memories they shared with such an extraordinary individual.
A memorial service will be held in honor of his life on Saturday, July 15, 2023, 1 to 3 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel (1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va. 23113), where family and friends will gather to pay their final respects. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Richmond SPCA in memory of Dr. Kim Marsh, ensuring his legacy lives on by supporting the animals he loved so much.
Fair winds and following seas, dear Kim, as your spirit continues to inspire us all.
