Leonard Redford Obituary

Leonard Franklin Redford

March 14, 1934 - January 6, 2025

Leonard Franklin Redford, affectionately known as "Len" or "Punk" to many, passed away peacefully at 90 on January 6, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on March 14, 1934, in Burkeville, Virginia, Leonard lived a life marked by service, kindness, and a deep commitment to family and community.

Upon graduating high school, Leonard joined the U.S. Navy, serving honorably during the Korean War aboard the USS Fitzpatrick. After his military service, he attended the University of Richmond before graduating from Richmond Professional Institute (RPI), now Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). His dedication shaped his successful 32-year career in the contracts division at Reynolds Aluminum's corporate headquarters in Richmond, VA, where his professionalism was deeply respected.

In 1990, Leonard and his wife, Olivia G. Haynie, with whom he shared 36 wonderful years, relocated from Richmond, Virginia, to Sarasota, Florida. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Leonard cherished his family and created a home filled with love and laughter.

He coached little league baseball, fostering teamwork and confidence, and was an active member of Toastmasters International for a decade. An avid golfer, he enjoyed many hours on the course, and his involvement with the First United Methodist Church in Sarasota brought him great fulfillment. Those who knew Len will always remember his contagious laugh and thoughtful, generous spirit. Whether offering a helping hand or a listening ear, Len made everyone he met feel valued and supported.

He is survived by his sister, Shirley Mae Moring; his two sons, Stephen (Robson Teles) and Scott (Jeanie); his stepdaughter, Lynda H. Briggs (Jim); his stepson, William P. Haynie; grandchildren Jack, Jay, Carter, Alison, and Cole; great-grandchildren, Jack, Wyatt, Parker, and Bodi; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Memorial contributions in Leonard's name may be made to The Pines of Sarasota Foundation, 1501 North Orange Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34236.

Please celebrate Leonard's remarkable life by making someone feel seen and valued today, as he always did for others.

Memorial Services to be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery on February 28th at 1130 a.m.
