Mae Alcorn Obituary

ALCORN Mae Christensen "Chris" Alcorn died peacefully on October 31, 2006. She was 83. She was the wife of Quentin Gene "Al" Alcorn. They were married for 54 years. She is also survived by four children, Susan Marie Alcorn of Chicago, Ill., Michael Arthur Alcorn of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Carol Eggen of Vashon Island, Wash. and Peter Scott Alcorn of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Quentin Thomas Alcorn and Christian Barrett Alcorn of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Helen Vaubel of Lake Okoboji, Iowa and Margaret Peterson of Minneapolis, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister, Alice, preceded her in death. She was the daughter of Christian Arthur and Johanne "Hannah" Dorothea Christensen of rural Iowa. Chris grew up on the family farm and graduated from Iowa State University. After teaching for several years, she moved to Chicago and went to work for Sears, where she met Al. Following the birth of their children, she was a homemaker, becoming active in Grace Lutheran Church and starting a public library in LaGrange Park. She and Al retired to Calabash, N.C., where they spent their years traveling and enjoying Sunset Beach. Quilting was also one of her passions. A private celebration of her life will be held by her family at a later date. The family wishes to thank the ladies of Brighton Gardens and Odyssey Hospice for their care and compassion.

Dear Al, please accept my sympathy on the passing of Chris. I knew her through the nifty niners golf group. She was special and was a good influence on me.
