Malcolm Lacy Obituary

Dr. Malcolm Baker Lacy, Jr.

Dr. Malcolm Baker Lacy, Jr., DDS, passed away on July 18, 2024 in South Boston, VA. He was nine days shy of his 100th birthday, having been born on July 27, 1924. He was the oldest child of Dr. Malcolm Baker Lacy Sr. and Marian Spragins Lacy. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Marjorie Creasy Lacy; his second wife, Kathleen Wilkins Lacy; his daughter, Lavalette Lacy Jennings; and his brother, William Coles Lacy. He is survived by his son-in-law, C Foster Jennings, Jr.; his two grandchildren, Malcolm Foster Jennings and Lacy Jennings Khandan-Barani and husband Benjamin; sister, Nan Lacy Godbold; and his beloved friend, Sandra Wallace of South Boston.

As a member of the "greatest generation", Mac eventually graduated from VMI in 1946 after having his college years interrupted by world events. He served in the US Army from 1944-46, primarily in India. He then followed in his father's footsteps by completing dental school at MCV and joining his practice in South Boston, where he worked until his retirement.

Some of Mac's cherished associations included his church, First Presbyterian Church of South Boston where he was a member for nearly 100 years, an elder and a member of the choir for over 40 years; "DunRoamin", a supper club for at least five decades, where he served as president until this past year; his legendary golf groups at Halifax Country Club, where he helped his grandson, Mac, love the sport; vacations with close friends on the porch at the Owner's Club, house 10; and any occasion when he could entertain all age groups, longtimers and newcomers alike, with his playful banter. He was still able to complete the daily crossword puzzle until his last day.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at First Presbyterian Church, South Boston. A reception and 100th birthday celebration will follow.

Memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 800 North Main St, South Boston, VA 24592.

We will miss Mac who always sat behind Peggy and I at church. He was a great gentleman and we called him friend.
