Mary Moore Obituary

Mary Ann Moore

June 11, 1935 - February 20, 2025

Mary Ann Moore, loving wife, super mom, awesome grandma, and blessed great-grandma, passed away peacefully at the age of 89, on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Her family spent the days preceding her death regaling her with cherished memories, funny stories, her favorite songs, so she was surrounded by much laughter and love.

Among the angels who will be waiting to greet her in heaven are her parents, James and Emeline Read; her brother, Robert Read; and her sister, Helen Sue Campbell.

She will be sorely missed by her devoted husband, Roland Moore; her faithful brothers, Bruce (Ginny) Read, John (Judy) Read; her spirited daughters, Elizabeth (Pat) McKeegan, Laura Papera, and Virginia (Ken) Berents; her amazing grandchildren, Patrick (Colleen) McKeegan, Kevin (Christi) McKeegan, Mary (David) Tweddle, Brendan (Lauren) Berents, Kevin (Christine) Berents, James Berents, Kendall (Ryan Westphal) Berents, Meredith (Michael) Gaza, and J. Robert Papera; as well as four and a half great- grandchildren; 11 nieces and a nephew.

Mary was born and raised in the quaint little town of Comstock Park, MI, where she met her future husband while working behind the counter of the local drug store. Roland showed up every day after school and ordered an orange pop until Mary finally agreed to go out with him. They dated for five years before getting married in 1958. Upon saying "I do," her handsome prince whisked her away to various exotic locales, like Bethlehem, PA, Morton Grove, IL, Des Moines, IA, and then back to Bethlehem. They built a wonderful life together, all while raising their three darling daughters (all of whom are perfect in every way).

As a mom, she spoiled her daughters (although we didn't always realize it at the time), serving as PTA president and Girl Scout leader, making our favorite foods when we were sad or sick, shopping with/for us, being our taxi, letting us have parties in the basement, joining us with our friends on Trivial Pursuit night (and winning!), looking the other way when we came home late, trying not to comment when we brought home a date she didn't necessarily approve of, hosting friends and family from the Midwest when she found out they moved or traveled east of the Mississippi, and of course shopping, shopping, shopping, shopping.

As much as she spoiled her daughters, her grandchildren were the light of her life. Attending sporting and school events without fail, baking cookies, brownies and happy cake, singing to them, playing games, buying clothes their parents wouldn't, and of course making her twice-baked potato casserole.

Mary was also a school teacher. She loved her third graders, and I'm sure many of them are out conquering the world due to her dedication to each and every one of them. Penmanship was very important to her, and receiving a letter from her written in beautiful script was a treasure to behold.

During the last few years of her life, Mary was fortunate to be cared for by the very special staff at the Haven at Brandermill Woods and Crater Community Hospice. Because of their kindness to both Mary and Roland, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandermill Woods Resident Gift Fund in memory of Mary Moore, 2100 Brandermill Parkway, Midlothian, VA 23114, or Crater Community Hospice at cratercommunityhospice.org.

Services will be private.

Ginny nd family. I am saddened to hear of the passing of your mother. I would always get her to smile a little when Roland would take her on a stroll around Brandermill. She was always dressed in the prettiest of blue sweaters. She will always live on in your memories. My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Roland & Family,
We were saddened to read of Mary's passing. Mary was one of the Parke's prettiest, and a lovely lady.

We know the last years were difficult, but you had many years of good memories. May those years comfort you.
