Mary Katharine Van Lear

Mary Katharine Van Lear also known as Kate passed away on May 12, 2025 at Morningside West End in Richmond, Virginia. Born on August 9, 1943 in Mobile, Alabama, she was the loving daughter of Hunter Young Van Lear and Carol McCallum Van Lear. Kate grew up in New Jersey though she had an enduring love for Bath County, Virginia where she spent many summers and went to college at Randolph College in Lynchburg. Virginia. She was a fine equestrian and had a love for animals, gardening, classical music, and art history. Kate was also kind and loving to everyone she met and was a steadfast friend. She will be sorely missed by her sister, Elizabeth Lee Van Lear, her brother, Stevan Hunter Van Lear and his wife, Kathryn Kelly Van Lear and by her nephews, Hunter and Quintin Van Lear. A memorial service will be held on behalf of Kate on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at Horeb Baptist Church in Millboro, Virginia.
