Mary Webb Windle-Jacob
August 30, 1929 - July 1, 2025
Mary Webb Windle-Jacob passed away at the age of 95. She was born in Richmond, VA, daughter of Harry A Webb and Susan Bigger Webb Boyd. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Mark I Jacob, and prior husbands Robert Windle and Robert Dugas; her siblings, Frances Hewes, Thomas V Webb and Harry A Webb, Jr; stepdaughter Susan Harris, her husband Larry; and granddaughter Stephanie Windle. She is survived by her best friends, her sons, R. Stephen Windle (wife Anne) and David Windle (wife Aya); sister Jane Webb Field; step son Robert (Bo) Jacob (wife Willa); grandchildren Samantha Windle Hearn (husband Brandon), Mas Windle and Yosh Windle. She is also survived by Samantha and Stephanie's mother Darlene Pylinski (husband Thad), and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Virginia, California, Florida and England.
Mary had a long, successful career in retail. She started as co-owner of a boutique (The Snooty Fox) in Greenville, NC, where she attended East Carolina College, while raising her sons. Later, she was a buyer and merchandise manager for specialty chains in Jacksonville, FL and Los Angeles, CA. In her 60's, Mary tired of the travel and became a VP of Retail for an executive search firm in L.A., then opening her own search firm, with clients throughout the U.S. Still operating her search firm, she returned to Richmond to be near her granddaughter, Stephanie, who was ill with Leukemia (sadly she died at age 20). Mary still operated the search firm until 9/11 when business slowed, so she accepted a position at Macy's as a Ralph Lauren specialist, until her retirement at 79.
After her beloved husband, Mark Jacob passed in 2017, Mary volunteered 3 days a week in the office of All Saints Episcopal Church, a "job" she loved. She later brought her experience and energy to an independent living community in Las Vegas where "Party Mary" arranged numerous fashion shows and "events", while supporting new residents and actively engaging in the community. 95 years well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the SPCA of Richmond (
richmondspca.org or 1-804-521-1308). Memorial service to be announced.
