Michael Holtz Obituary

HOLTZ, Mr. Michael James, Sr., born April 23, 1947, age 74, of Glen Allen, Va., passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sandra (Simon) Holtz; and parents, Delbert and Marion Holtz of Sheboygan, Wis. He is survived by his sister, Diane (Hocevar); and brother, Bob Holtz; children, Mike and Kelly Holtz, Dr. Michael and Dr. Kate (Holtz) Neiderer, Dawson and Dr. Andrea (Holtz) Garrod; and nine grandchildren, Mackenzie, Michael, Ali, Sam, Lily, Jake, Ellie, Evelyn and Ben. He worked for many years in Pittsburgh, Pa. at Stuart Surgical Supply and moved to Richmond to work at Owens and Minor in the 1990s. As a younger man, Mike very much enjoyed snow skiing and playing golf all around the country. In his later years, he loved spending time at their house on Lake Anna, fishing, reading, cruising on the boat with the grandkids, or just having a beer and a cigar by the water setting off fireworks. He was an avid fan of University of Wisconsin, the Pittsburgh Penguins and all things Steelers. We will remember him trying to guess Final Jeopardy questions before the answer was given and incessantly declaring the artist and year of every 1960s song, but mostly we will miss his "distant hospitality and grumpy friendliness." Donations may be given to The David Letterman Scholarship for the Average C Student, U.S. Term Limits, or The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

So long my friend till we meet again and drink a beer. Sometimes we can find the right words and sometimes we stand beside one another and let our closeness say what words cannot. Remember the good times and celebrate a life well-lived. Our deepest sympathy to Mike,Katie,Andrea and their families. You are in my heard and prayers.

I worked with Mike on many different projects over a number of years from our two companies. As I got to know him he shared a lot of wisdom and guidance that I still use in my life today. It was an honor to know him. Wishing the entire family strength and support from the people around you. My deepest condolences

Mike Junior-

Your Dad was a thoroughly ethical, complete fair partner to us at Medikmark. He was a good man through and through.

Who can forget that time we spent at the Purdue-Badger football game with you, your Dad, Dave Sanders, and myself?

I always liked him and even tried to contact him last year when Dave passed away.

Please accept my sincere sympathies.

I worked for Mike 2000 to 2001 at Owens and Minor. He was an encyclopedia about our industry and had an incredible work ethic. I learned so much from him. Blessings to his wife, kids and grandkids.
