Michael Walters Obituary

WALTERS, Michael Charles "Mike", departed this life on Saturday, October 7, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Andy Walters. He is survived by his wife, Caroline of 26 years; his sons, Peyton and Ian; his mother, Peggy Walters; his sister, Denise Burchett (Fred); his brother, John Walters (Sally); nieces, Christine and Brittany; nephews, Dean and Ryan; and numerous relatives in Texas. Mike was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from Trinity Episcopal HS and received a BS in Economics from The University of Virginia. He enjoyed a 34-year career in medical device sales with DePuy Orthopaedics. As a local sales rep he achieved National "Rep of the Year" in 1993 and became a sales manager in Virginia and then in North Carolina. He was part of management teams that won multiple Territory of the Year awards during his career. His career also included a passion for the professional development of others. Mike's sense of adventure was an integral part of his whole life which he shared with his soulmate, Caroline. Whether you found him snow skiing, hiking, water skiing, SCUBA diving, golfing, paragliding, playing tennis or soccer he had a smile on his face. With Mike's love of teaching, he taught countless numbers of people to ski at Wintergreen Resort. His sons were eager learners leading to years of wonderful family memories. His greatest accomplishment and pride in his life was raising two sons. Whether it was a soccer match, golf tournament, tennis match, debate competition, computer programming competition or ski race, Mike was there and involved. His family was his "Crew", and they loved the guidance he provided. Mike will be remembered for his incredible work ethic and seeking the path that led to the greatest adventure.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Shady Grove UMC, 4825 Pouncy Tract Rd, Glen Allen, Virginia. 23059. In lieu of flowers, donate to NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness, www. nami.org or FeedMore www.give.feedmore.org

Walters Family, please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of Mike. He was a wonderful gentleman and a person for whom I had enormous respect. I, too, recall his big smile. Mike and I enjoyed a common sense of humor about things, and I always enjoyed sharing stories with him. I shall remember him fondly. I hope the family is able to find peace. Best regards.

Caroline, Payton and Ian, I just heard of the loss and it grieves me tremendously. My heart goes out to you and the family. Mike and I go back so many years from my first arriving in Virginia 34 years ago. He was the greatest of friends and best Orthopedic rep to work with, far ahead of the rest . You are correct when you said he always had a smile on his face and brightened the room whenever he entered. He was a "go getter" and pursued all activities full throttle. Like you said, he taught many to learn to ski at Wintergreen including this big boy from Alabama with no ski experience and then accompanied me to a Ski Meeting in Breckenridge Colorado. That is a week I will never forget and always be incredibly grateful for. Alison and I am so very sorry and hope to see you soon. We give immortality to those we love in our memories . Lee and Alison Hereford,
Staunton, Virginia
