Muriel Garson
September 22, 1933 - November 2, 2025
Muriel E. Garson of Richmond, Va., age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, with her sons at her side. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years C. Daniel Garson, and her daughter in law Barbara Wallis Garson. Loving mother of Douglas (Palmer) Garson of Richmond, Va., and David (Rene) Garson of Pittsburgh, Pa. Cherished grandmother of Chris (Evan) Garson of Leesburg, Va., Elizabeth (Ari) Koteles of Atlanta Ga., Heather (Michael) Welch of Ashville N.C., Will (Caroline) Garson of Richmond, Va., Lauren (Joe) Tamanini of Brooklyn, N.Y., Danielle (John) Gifford of Columbus, Ohio. Beloved great-grandmother to Miles and Amy Garson, Palmer and Charles Koteles, and Wyatt and Parker Welch. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Livi Henderson of Tysons, Va.
She was born and raised in Mt. Lebanon, Pa. In 1954, she graduated from Penn State with a bachelor of science in elementary education (Alpha Xi Delta), and then married her high school beau, Dan. She followed Dan to Puerto Rico during his military deployment and they returned to Pittsburgh in 1957. Throughout the years she very much enjoyed moving to many different states through Dan's many career moves, and cultivating lifelong friendships with wonderful people. Along the way she was an elementary school teacher, nursery school teacher and director, and she even went back to school to learn computer programming and then worked for Perkin Elmer in their Information Technology department. In 1984 she took time off from her career to help Doug and her grandson Chris after losing Barbara. Later she joined Dan as a partner in his successful real estate career. In 1995 they retired to Richmond, Va., moving into a custom home built by Doug. While in Richmond among her many activities, she was active at Trinity UMC with the Stephens Ministries, setting up the prayer chain, and organizing luncheons for widows and widowers.
Her greatest joy in life was the time spent with her family, which grew with the addition of generations. She will always be remembered as having that "gift of gab," never letting those awkward silent moments extend very long.
The family would especially like to thank the many caregivers at Manorhouse who took such loving care of her that gave Muriel and her family so much comfort.
A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave., at 11 am on Saturday November 8th, followed by a reception. A private burial for the family will be held at 10 am at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, preceding the church service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made payable to either "The Trinity Foundation" and mailed to Trinity UMC, 903 Forest Ave, Henrico, VA 23229, or
